Apple Distinguished Educator, Class of 2011
Approximately 50 North American educators are selected biyearly. “Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs) are part of a global community of education leaders recognized for doing amazing things with Apple technology in and out of the classroom. They explore new idea, seek new paths, and embrace new opportunities. That includes working with each other – and with Apple – to bring the freshest, most innovative ideas to students everywhere.” As part of the application process I submitted a two-minute video.
Google Certified Innovator, spring 2012
Approximately 100 educators are selected yearly. “Google Certified Innovators are exceptional K-12 educators with a passion for using innovative tools to improve teaching and learning, creative leaders who understand their local needs and can spread innovation as a recognized expert, and ambassadors for change who model high expectations, life-long learning, collaboration, equity & inclusion, and innovation.” As part of the application process I submitted a one-minute video.
Adobe Educator’s Choice Awards, fall 2011
This contest features innovative teaching and learning materials created with the help of Adobe products. I was the Grand Prize winner in the Primary/Secondary Cross-Curricular category. My submission was Pinball Wizard, a STEM unit in which students engineered pinball machines while learning about electricity & magnetism and force & motion. I submitted the website for the unit, which I created using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. After winning, I was interviewed by a representative from Adobe who had taken an interest in Pinball Wizard.
Jacobs Educator Award Program: Indiana University Bloomington, fall 2012
Five North American educators are selected yearly. “The Jacobs Educator Award is supported by the Barbara B. Jacobs Chair in Education and Technology to recognize K-12 teachers across the United States who are using technology to support innovative inquiry-based teaching and learning activities in their classrooms.” As part of the application process, I submitted a two-minute video that provides an overview of a technology-enhanced inquiry-based activity that I have implemented in my classroom. The focus of the video is Pinball Wizard.
